Eternal Lifeby Talisha KingThis unique style of artwork is inspired by the burn off season, when all the tree and crops are burnt to make way for new life. Every year, when the time is right and the crops no longer bear their fruits, they will be burnt and discarded to make way for the new harvest to come again the following year. Here is a poem written by the artist depicting the vision for this painting.
In the autumn time when the tree were tall. They would be sacrificed and they would fall. Burning from the tips to roots. No longer worthy to bear their fruits. The fire swells, crackles and sparks. Stripping the tree of its bark. The flames blazing with all it's might. Turning an otherwise night sky bright. |
ArtistTalisha King was born in Adelaide on September 9th 1988 and grew up in her father's country Katherine, in the Northern Territory. Talisha is a Gurindji/Waanyi woman. She spent most of her childhood with her extended family throughout the Top End including Katherine, Bulman (Gulin-Gulin) community and Nhulunbuy (Gove). After completing primary school in Nhulunbuy she then moved to Adelaide permanently to continue high school. On completion of high school Talisha was accepted into the University of South Australia, where she is currently completing a Bachelor in Medical Radiation with hopes to pursue a post graduate Medical Degree soon after. Talisha's style reflects traditional family techniques passed down by her father while also incorporating her own personal designs. Capturing her country and experiences throughout her childhood and taking into account the spiritual and cultural connection with the land and elements. |
