BiographyShanna Napanangka Williams is an artist from Yuendumu Community, which is located approximately 3 hours from Alice Springs in Central Australia. Shanna is a Warlpiri woman with the primary focus of her paintings situated on the sacred site of Puyurru which is to the west of Yuendumu Community. Her paintings are often titled Ngapa (Water) Dreaming. Puyurru usually features dry creek beds which are water soakages or naturally occurring wells. Shanna uses both traditional iconography as well as an underground view of this water soakages to represent the Jukurrpa (Dreaming) associated with the site of Puyurru and its elements in her paintings. Shanna works closely with Warlukurlangu – Artists of Yuendumu and it is through them that her work is now featured in several galleries around Australia.
