Untitledby Patrick TjungurrayiThis artwork depicts particular shapes which refer to the artist country around Yalangerri, two kilometres west of Wilkinkarra (Lake Mackay) in Western Australia. Depicted with the use of bold iconography are sand hills, ceremonial sites between Balgo, Kiwirrkurra and Kintore country. The artist's work is symbolically of significance for Anangu Aboriginal people and their culture; sites created by the Tingari ancestors as they travelled during the dreamtime period. |
ArtistPatrick Tjungurrayi was born at Yalangerri near Jupiter Well, Patrick Olodoodi walked from his traditional country into the old Balgo Mission and worked on the housing at the new Balgo site. He was involved in building the stone houses and the church in which on, he married Miriam Olodoodi. Patrick Tjungurrayi is a senior law man and is responsible for upholding the traditional ceremonies for the country around Balgo, Kiriwrrkurra and Kintore in the western desert. Patrick commenced painting painting in the early 1980's and is diligent and proficient painter Artist has Passed Awayc.1935-2018 Out of respect for Aboriginal culture Central Art has removed the artist's photograph. |
