Snake Vine Dreamingby Madeleine Dixon Napangardi

This painting relates to the Napangardi & Napanangka women collecting Ngalyipi (Snake Vine). The Ngalyipi has great ceremonial significance to Warlpiri people. Ngalyipi is used to make shoulder straps to help carry Ngami (water carriers) and Parraja (coolamon).

Madeleine Dixon Napangardi was born at Yuendumu Community approximately 290km from Alice Springs in Central Australia. Madeleine is a Warlpiri woman.

Central Art met Madeleine in 2007; she paints as a hobby and cultural activity. Her Dreamings include Ngalyipi Jukurrpa (Snake Vine Dreaming) and Mina Mina Dreaming. Madeleine also works with Warlukurlangu Artists, an Aboriginal art centre based in Yuendumu.
