Biography
Lenie Namatjira was born in 1951 and comes from Raggatts Well, Glen Helen Station in Central Australia. Lenie comes from the family of arguably the most well known Aboriginal artist of all time, Albert Namatjira. Her father is Oscar Namatjira the son of Albert Namatjira. Her father raised a large family with Lenie being one of ten children, all were raised in Hermannsburg Community approximately one hour from Alice Springs in Central Australia.
Lenie paints in the same watercolour style as her grandfather and father. Her watercolour artworks focus on landscapes found around Hermannsburg particularly to the west. She draws on her childhood memories to inspire her artworks. Lenie's paintings are held in collections including the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. Her artworks have been exhibited all around Australia.
