Walungurru in the Pintupi language is known as the Aboriginal community of Kintore, a population of about 400, located 550 km west of Alice Springs, near the Northern Territory/Western Australia border and the Tropic of Capricorn.

Walungurru is a major centre for the Western Desert art movement . The Pintupi Aboriginal people traditionally have passed on significant Dreamtime stories by way of art using sand, rock and local plants. Today, such paintings are done on canvas and have gained worldwide recognition.
